portland mall light rail project well underway

Along Pioneer Courthouse Square’s eastern edge, on SW Sixth Avenue, the paved track way is complete along with dark gray sand-set bricks which have been laid in the adjoining lanes. This unique roadway treatment highlights the heart of downtown and helps reinforce the Square's visual connection with its neighbor and namesake Pioneer Courthouse. The adjacent intersections feature new red sand-set bricks with a central circular pattern to help delineate pedestrian crosswalks. These sand-set bricks are more durable and easier to maintain than the mortar-set bricks they replaced.

Crews are preparing SW Sixth Avenue for the Stimson Lumber Tree Arrival Presented by SmartPark on November 9th. Beginning November 16th, construction in the downtown core takes a break for the duration of the holiday season. In January 2008, crews will return to build the new sidewalk and platform area at Pioneer Courthouse. For more information on the Portland Mall Light Rail project, click here.
